Recent report on ASUU strike gathered that the union (Academic Staff Union of Universities) rejected Berekete Family radio’s intervention to end the ongoing strike. The national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, has said the warning strike embarked upon by the union on February 14, would soon be truncated. The ASUU national president stated this yesterday while speaking on the Human Rights Radio, producers of the popular national radio/TV programme, Brekete Family Show. According to ASUU and SSANU national presidents, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and Mr Mohammed Ibrahim respectively, the Briggs committee has been meeting with the various unions since May 2022 to renegotiate their agreements. ASUU national presidents, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke in a recent report disclosed that ‘‘There is progress both on FG and the Briggs committee meeting but it depends on the government side. We had a fairly good meeting we are still trying to resolve the issues. Until we get the final report from the government. We are trying to work in the same direction. 3,135 Candidates With High UTME Scores Denied Admission, JAMB Reveals, Gives Reason

A total of 3,135 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry examinations candidates who scored 300 and above in 2018, 2019 and 2020 did not gain admission into tertiary institutions. According to report, the figure is based on the admission statistics prepared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for the three years. The statistics for 2018, 2019 and 2020 were made available on the board’s website. Meanwhile, the board is still working on the 2021 statistics following the conclusion of the 2021 admissions. Reports gathered that while tertiary institutions are at liberty to determine their respective cut-off marks for admission, there is a widely held belief that candidates who score higher marks have advantages over those with poor UTME scores.
