The Honourable member representing Idemili North and South federal constituency, Hon. Uche Okonkwo also known as Ebubeagu Ojoto, has in a heartfelt plea dated today October 6, 2025, urged Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Soludo to release Chigozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki, on compassionate grounds. The native doctor from Oba in Idemili North Local Government Area has been in detention since February 2025, facing charges related to promoting get-rich-quick schemes, preparing charms for criminals, and misleading youths. An elder statesman and senior lawyer, Robert Clarke, SAN, has on Monday said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), should be granted an extension of tenure to curb the issues of insecurity in the country. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged plan to disqualify him from the 2023 presidential primaries slated for the end of this month. Reports gathered that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given political parties a deadline of June 3 to submit their candidates for the 2023 elections. Meanwhile, Lawyers and critics had argued that Emefiele was unfit to run going by Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act. The section states that no political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, had reportedly petitioned an Abia State High Court to order the Nigerian government to release Kanu and pay him the sum of 5 billion naira as compensation for infringing on his fundamental human rights. He stated this, in a communique disclosed by his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021. According to Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu’s rights were infringed upon in 2017, when Nigerian Army invaded his residence in Afaraukwu, Abia State.
