The suspension letter, signed by Dr. Dominic Ekpo, Dean of Students' Affairs, and made available to EruditeNewsBlog by Elijah Ubong the Union's Director of Information who was earlier suspended by said SUG President, further directs Ekanem to appear before the university's Students' Disciplinary Committee for further investigation. It references the AKSU Students' Handbook, which classifies such actions as major infractions warranting severe penalties. "This is as a result of your gross misconduct ranging from your forceful collection of car keys from the Driver attached to your office as President of the Students' Union, and given false information against the constituted authority," the letter states.
In a procedural shift to maintain continuity, the SUG Vice President has been appointed acting president pending the committee's final determination. See the suspension letter below:
Recall that, Ekanem, a student in the Department of Public Administration at AKSU's main campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, assumed the role of SUG President earlier this year - 2025 amid high expectations. His leadership has however not been without controversy: In July 2025, Ekanem issued a suspension against Elijah Ubong, the SUG Director of Information, over allegations of circulating unauthorized and misleading content related to a Sit-at-Home directive. That incident, announced via a press statement, barred Ubong from all union activities and drew mixed reactions within the student body. Critics at the time questioned the proportionality of the response, while supporters viewed it as a necessary step to maintain order in the Union.
This is a developing story, as more information is being made available, this article will probably be updated.
