UNIZIK 2023/24 ADMISSION GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURE

It's no longer news that Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has commenced her admission ahead of the 2023/24 academic session, however in this article I'll be highlighting the guidelines on what next to do on seeing Admission In Progress (AIP) in our JAMB caps.

Before then, it's good to note that UNIZIK do have four admission lists, first on merit and it comes in batches (A&B), second is partly on persons being transferred to another course and supplementary, third is more of supplementary admission followed by Vice Chancellor (VC)'s list.

And then the admission is being given based on JAMB quota as made mandatory to all federal universities in Nigeria. This admission quota in lay man understanding means, considerations for admission of candidates or Nigeria varsity Aspirants in their choosen varsity.

In summary, note that Admission into all Federal Higher Institutions of learning via UTME in Nigeria is based on the following quota:

■ Merit - 45%
■ Catchment Area - 35%
■ Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) - 20%

A. Admission Based on Merit:

Admission into all Federal Higher Institutions of learning is reserved for candidates with very high UTME scores i.e. based on performance irrespective of the State of origin. Forty five percent (45%) of the available admission space is reserved for such eligible candidates.

Admission based on Merit is prime.

B. Admission Based on Catchment Area:

Specific States of the Federation have been identified as catchment areas of Federal Higher Institutions of Learning. Thirty five percent (35%) of the available admission space is reserved for eligible candidates whose States of origin have been identified as catchment areas of the institution of choice.

Each federal university in Nigeria has its own catchment areas. The catchment areas of a university (note that catchment areas apply to only federal universities) are those areas (states) that a federal university is geographically connected to.

According to the federal government’s admission policy, if your state of origin is recognized as part of the catchment area of the federal university you applied to study, you will stand a better chance of securing admission into that university than someone else whose state of origin is not recognized as part of the university’s catchment area.

University of Benin (UNIBEN) for instance has Edo, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross-River, Delta, Edo, Rivers State as its catchment areas. Let’s say two candidates apply for medicine and Surgery at the University Of Benin, one of them is from Delta State and the other one is from Enugu State.

Let’s assume the one from Delta State has a UTME score of 220 and the one from Enugu has a UTME score of 245; the one from Delta State will first be considered for admission in UNIBEN despite the fact he scored lower than the other one from Enugu State. The reason is that Delta State is part of UNIBEN’s catchment area.

This is why it is advisable for candidates to apply for admission to any that has the candidates’ state of origin as its party of its catchment area. Some federal universities have selected states as their catchment areas while some have all the states in Nigeria as their catchment areas.

Below are Nigeria Federal Universities and their catchment areas:

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Catchment areas: Anambra, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo.

"Nne or Nna, you can kindly reject the admission and wait for next year cause it's assumed say u no get any buz with UNIZIK, however there're exceptions too but we don't need it).

• On accepting your admission, go and get your original JAMB result and admission letter from any cyber cafe near you (u can DM for yours though, whenever u plan entering school, you'll get the hard copy, if u want PDF format, good and fine..)

• After admission letter or before then, you'll have to wait for your admission to reflect in UNIZIK Portal after which you can pay your ACCEPTANCE FEE (Amount to be disclosed later).

• After paying acceptance fee and on the payment reflecting, u'll have to go for your E-Clearance, biometrics and capturing.

• After E-Clearance, next is Physical Clearance and this determines the validity of your admission.

MORE UPDATES TO BE MADE AVAILABLE LATER.

MOSTLY ASKED QUESTION:

Qué: "My state is Anambra but in my Jamb the state am seeing is Enugu. Buh i don't know y it like that. All i know is that my national identification number registration happened at Enugu Nsukka. Is there any problem with it?"

Ans: Yes, there is problem. Go and correct the mistake at NIN office, then JAMB. This is because by virtue of you providing your NIN for the JAMB registration, details there automatically reflects on every registration you do with it. And during physical clearance, you must rectify it before you will be cleared.
