[DETAILS] UNIZIK POST UTME SCREENING EXERCISE CALCULATION FORMULA FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, wishes to inform all prospective students of UNIZIK and the general public that the institution's Post-UTME, Direct Entry, and other related screening exercises for the 2025/2026 admission session will be conducted in a very transparent way via screening using JAMB/UTME scores and O’level results.
According to a communiqué by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, the university has adopted an automated screening system that will combine both JAMB-UTME scores and O’level results, this in her words, is to make the process clear and fair for everyone. That is to say, no manual grading or favoritism, as every candidates admission chances will depend strictly on how well he/she performed in JAMB (UTME) and O’level results.
Candidates must also note that it is compulsory to upload their O’level results to both the JAMB CAPS portal and the UNIZIK portal. "If you upload to only one of them, you may be disqualified" she said.
Meanwhile, aspirants or UTME candidates are warned not to use unapproved or non-JAMB accredited cybercafés for uploading results. They're in other words, to make use of JAMB-accredited CBT centers or JAMB offices to avoid errors.
Understanding the Screening Formula and How It Works:
To make the process easy to understand, UNIZIK has released a clear formula that will be used to calculate every candidate’s final score. This final score will determine your chances of being admitted.
Step 1: The Screening Ratio:
The university will use a 70:30 ratio when calculating scores.
70% will come from your UTME score.
30% will come from your O’level result.
This means your UTME performance is very important, but your O’level results also play a big role.
Mathematically, this is expressed as:
UTME score ÷ 400 × 70
O’level subject score ÷ 400 × 30
So, both results will be added together to give your final admission score.
Step 2: How O’level Results Are Ranked:
Your O’level results will not just be used as they are; instead, each grade is given a score. The ranking is as follows:
A1 = 90 points
B2 = 80 points
B3 = 70 points
C4 = 60 points
C5 = 55 points
C6 = 50 points
D7, E8, F9 = 0 points
Awaiting Result (AR) = 0 points
For each candidate, the four subjects you wrote in UTME will also be checked in your O’level. The grades you got in those subjects will be converted into points using the table above. For example: If you wrote English, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry in UTME, those same four subjects will be checked in your O’level and scored accordingly.
Step 3: Bonus for Single Sitting:
UNIZIK also rewards candidates who passed all their O’level subjects in one sitting. If you got all your required O’level subjects in one sitting, you will be given an extra 10 points as a bonus.
If you used two sittings, you will not get any bonus. This means that candidates with a single sitting result have an advantage over those with two sittings.
Step 4: Final Calculation Formula:
The final score will be calculated using this formula:
Final Score = (UTME Score × 0.7) + [(O’level Score + Bonus) × 0.3]
Where:
UTME score is your JAMB result.
O’level score is the sum of the points from your four UTME subjects.
Bonus is either 10 (for single sitting) or 0 (for two sittings).
Worked Example (Illustration)
Let’s take an example of a candidate who scored 285 in UTME. His O’level results in the four subjects are as follows:
English: B3 → 70 points
Biology: A1 → 90 points
Physics: C4 → 60 points
Chemistry: B2 → 80 point
Total O’level score = 70 + 90 + 60 + 80 = 300 points
Now let’s calculate:
(i) Single Sitting:
Final Score = (285 × 0.7) + [(300 + 10) × 0.3]
= 199.5 + 93
= 292.5
(ii) Two Sittings:
Final Score = (285 × 0.7) + (300 × 0.3)
= 199.5 + 90
= 289.5
From this calculation, you can see that the candidate with a single sitting has a higher final score (292.5) compared to the candidate with two sittings (289.5). The difference is 3 points, which may be the deciding factor in admission. See attached memo below for further details:
Key Things Candidates Must Note:
1. Upload Your O’level Results: Make sure you upload them to both JAMB CAPS and UNIZIK portal. Failure to do this may disqualify you.
2. Use JAMB Accredited CBT Centres: Do not use unapproved cybercafés. This will save you from errors that may cost you admission.
3. Understand the Formula: Admission is not by guesswork. Learn how the formula works so you can estimate your chances.
4. Do Well in Both UTME and O’level: Since the ratio is 70:30, your UTME is very important. However, strong O’level results can increase your final score significantly.
5. Aim for Single Sitting: If possible, credit your O’levels in one sitting. That extra 10 points can give you an edge over other candidates.
