There was a tense confrontation today November 11, 2025, in the Gaduwa district of Abuja, Nigeria, between our dear FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accompanied by FCTA officials and security personnel, and a group of courageous soldiers over an ongoing land ownership dispute involving allegations of illegal acquisition. Reports gathered by EruditeNewsBlog disclosed that the land in question is a parcel (Plot 1946) in the Gaduwa estate, designated for development and possibly linked to high-ranking officials, including the Chief of Army Staff.
From the video coverage attached to this news article, Wike alongside his convoy approached the said site around midday to inspect and enforce compliance with FCT land allocation rules, including recent fines on property owners for converting residential homes to commercial use without permits, but were stopped by soldiers stationed there claiming the ongoing activities were legitimate and backed by proper documentation.
Wike had to alight his vehicle and directly engaged one of the soldiers - a dear handsome 3 star officer, demanding access but was still denied that. Not allowing self back down easily as usual, he accused the soldier of intimidation and illegal protection of the land grab. "You are aware that the land departments and Development Control have been mandated to monitor illegal developments and land grabbing in the FCT. When this matter was brought to my attention, I directed that nothing should take place on that plot since there were no legal documents or urban regional approvals. Unfortunately, I was informed that soldiers chased our officials away”, he said.
The argument did intensify with Wike repeatedly interrupting the lead soldier and using strong language but courageous brother maintained composure, repeatedly stating he was following lawful orders and that the land was acquired legally. At one point, a near-physical scuffle broke out between Wike's security men and the soldiers.
Wike referenced a call from the Chief of Defence Staff at that material time as the only reason the situation didn't turn violent. His words: "You send soldiers to intimidate who? We are all from this country. If not for the CDS who spoke to me now, you would have to kpai everybody here. I’m not one of those that you can intimidate... You cannot carry guns to intimidate me we’re all from this country!" Watch the video below:
The standoff did actually end without entry being granted, and Wike's team withdrew. The entire episode lasted several minutes, drawing a crowd of onlookers and officials.
This is a developing story, as more report 's being made available, this article will be updated.
