The Management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has banned all social activities on the campus that will exceed 6pm. According to them, every social event within the institution environment must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit.
The directive which was contained in a communiqué signed by Mr. Inya Egwu, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, came following the unfortunate incident that occurred within the institution on Friday night - September 12, 2025, involving a murdered businessman identified as Chiebonam Nweze (Power_autos) from Lejja Nsukka and the alleged murderer - Onyeka popularly known as "Daddy_Yo", a non-student of the university from Umudiaka Nsukka.
In a report sourced from Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi's Facebook account by EruditeNewsBlog, the tragic incident happened during a Faculty of Arts bonfire event held at the Department of Archaeology, opposite UBA Hall of Fame. "When the bonfire was going on, Power_autos who was a guest during a bonfire night organised by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, wanted to go home alongside his friends, his GLK scratched Daddy_Yo's car while he was reversing. They had a minor issues which reports indicated that the university security team did intervene and de-escalated the situation immediately."
"When Power_autos was leaving the school environment with his friends, Daddy_Yo's guys double-Crossed them with 3 cars. Power_autos's friends ran away sensing danger but Power_autos came out from the steering to know what is happening, they slìt his throat with knìfe and he died instantly. They fled, abandoning their vehicle after it fell into a gutter within campus."
"UNN security was alerted, immediately the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr. Kris Alumona sent signal and all exit inside UNN were blocked. As they tried escaping through UNN Odenigwe gate axis, they (4 in number) were apprehended and currently detained at state CID Enugu for further legal actions." Ugwuanyi's post reads in part.
The management while reacting to the report stated that it was unfortunate that the fire event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighbouring community, who instigated violence.
They however assured the public that UNN remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and would continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such incident.
