The event took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Giant House Complex within the university premises. Comr. Ijeomah was warmly received by the current SUG President, Giant Comr. Ochuba Chukwusom Samuel, alongside other executive members of the union.
Comr. Charles Ijeomah previously served as the SUG President of UNIZIK during the 29th House administration, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership focused on student advocacy, welfare improvements, and effective representation. His tenure was marked by tangible achievements in addressing student concerns, fostering unity among campus leaders, and ensuring that the voices of UNIZIK students were heard at both local and national levels. Building on this foundation, he later ascended to the role of Coordinator for NANS Zone F (South East), where he continued his commitment to student welfare. As Zone Coordinator, he actively engaged in zonal conventions, advocated for fair policies affecting South East students, and contributed to broader NANS initiatives, earning praise for his dedication to equity, peaceful resolutions, and advancing the interests of Nigerian students across the region.
During the visit and campaign flag-off, Comr. Ijeomah commended the current SUG leadership under President Ochuba Chukwusom for their outstanding efforts in prioritizing students' welfarism. He highlighted the administration's proactive approach to student issues, including enhanced welfare programs, improved campus facilities, effective representation in dealings with university management, and initiatives that have directly improved the living and learning conditions of UNIZIK students.
In his address to the gathering, Comr. Ijeomah outlined his vision for the NANS Senate Presidency. He pledged to champion the welfare of students not only within the Students Union framework but also across tertiary institutions nationwide. His campaign emphasizes inclusive representation, robust advocacy for better funding of education, improved security on campuses, affordable tuition, and policies that address the pressing challenges faced by Nigerian students in an evolving socio-economic landscape.
Responding to the aspirant's remarks, SUG President Ochuba Chukwusom expressed strong solidarity with Comr. Ijeomah's ambition. He lauded the aspirant's track record of service and leadership, pledging his full support within his capacity as SUG President. He wished Comr. Ijeomah success in his bid, expressing confidence that his experience and passion would translate into positive impacts for Nigerian students at the national level.
The event drew a notable attendance of prominent student leaders, underscoring the broad based support for the campaign. Among those present were former SUG President Giant Comr. Anih Chukwuemeka Livinus (28th House), Comr. Augustine Onyema, Comr. Daniel Ugwueke, Comr. Daniel Chukwunonso, the SUG Director of Socials & Welfare, SUG Financial Secretary, SUG Public Relations Officer (PRO), SUG Deputy Senate President, various UNIZIK Hostel Presidents, amongst other students leaders.
The campaign launch at UNIZIK signals a strategic move by Comr. Charles Ijeomah to root his national ambition in proven local leadership and institutional endorsement, positioning him as a candidate with deep ties to student unionism and a demonstrated history of effective advocacy. As the NANS Senate President election approaches, observers anticipate that his experience and the momentum from this event will play a key role in shaping the race.
