The Nigerian Government has fully shifted the evaluation and authentication of academic certificates online thereby eliminating the need for applicants to travel to the Federal Ministry of Education offices in Abuja to complete the process.

The digital system as disclosed by the National Orientation Agency, aims to cut delays, boost transparency, protect the integrity of academic records, and make verification easier for Nigerians both at home and abroad.

According to the Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the move will reduce bureaucracy, speed up processing times, and give institutions, employers and other organisations a more reliable way to confirm academic qualifications.

Here’s a Clear, Step by Step Guide on how to Authenticate Your Academic Certificate Online

Step 1. Visit the Ministry’s official portal and create an account with your personal details.

Step 2. Upload clear, legible scans of the required documents or papers. These usually include your degree certificate, statement of results and any other supporting credentials.

Step 3. Contact your university or awarding institution and ask them to send your academic transcript directly from their official email address to the Ministry’s designated verification email. Transcripts sent from personal email accounts will not be accepted. This rule helps prevent fraud.

Step 4. Log into your account and check the dashboard regularly for status updates.

Step 5. Once verification is complete, download the authenticated document from the portal. You can then share it with employers, schools or organisations that need proof of your qualification.
