The Federal Government has announced that it's no longer compulsory for senior secondary school students in arts and humanities seeking admission into higher/tertiary institutions to have a credit in mathematics in their Senior School Certificate Examinations to wit WASSCE and NECO SSCE before they'll be considered for admission. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has lifted the suspension of Students’ Union Government (SUG) activities on its campus, effective immediately, as announced by Registrar Dr. Mrs. C.N. Nnebedum. The decision follows a turbulent period that began with the suspension of SUG executives and subsequent campus unrest. Recall that on September 15, 2025, the SUG House of Representatives suspended Comr. Ozoagu Chinedu Godswill alongside other executives over allegations of cultism, threats to life, gross misconduct, and financial mismanagement. At the heart of the financial scandal was the alleged diversion of ₦124 million approved by the former Acting Vice-Chancellor (who has since been removed by the Federal Government) for SUG projects. It's no longer news that several tertiary institutions across Nigeria have commenced their admission processes for 2025/26 academic session through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) with candidates actively checking their admission statuses. As earlier said via some of my UTME Forums, the JAMB CAPS portal is designed to streamline the admission process, allowing candidates to monitor their admission progress and make informed decisions. The Students' Union Government (SUG) President, Comr. Elijah Ekanem of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has been suspended from the union activities and from being a student of the institution. The action, detailed in an official letter today - October 2, 2025, cites gross misconduct including the forceful seizure of vehicle keys from a driver attached to his office and disseminating false information against the institution's constituted authorities. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria urging swift action to resolve the lingering issues in our public universities. This is to notify all prospective students of University of Nigeria (UNN) to ahead of Post-UTME/DE screening registration which will officially close on Monday, 22nd September by 11:59 PM, note that the university has reportedly adopted an automated screening system that will combine both JAMB-UTME scores and O’level results. Suffice it to say that there will be no manual grading for the screening process as every candidates admission chances will depend strictly on how well he/she performed in JAMB (UTME) and O’level results. The screening method is the proposed calculation method and the ratio to be used is 90:10 ratio when calculating scores. ie: 90% will come from UTME score, while 10% will come from O’level result.
